From Sydney: Travel to Lithgow via Bells Line of Road or Great Western Highway. From Lithgow, proceed along Great Western Highway (follow signposted route towards Bathurst).

Continue along the Great Western Highway (towards Bathurst) for 3km past the Mudgee turnoff, then turn Right at Barton Ave for Wallerawang/ Portland.

After passing Lake Wallace (on right) proceed for 1km then turn right onto the railway bridge at Wallerawang and immediately left onto the Portland road.

Alternatively, from the Castlereagh Highway (Mudgee Road) turn left at either the Wallerawang or Mt Piper turnoff and continue on to Portland

From Portland continue on to Bathurst, rejoining the Great Western Highway at Meadow Flat or towards Mudgee, rejoining the Castlereagh Highway at Cullen Bullen.

Portland can also be reached by train / bus on the cityrail network.
